Why we love summer (and hate Wisconsin the rest of the time)

JAN 29 UPDATE: Okay, this has to be a first--two days of classes cancelled in a block:

UW cancels classes through noon Thursday

I'm going ice skating! Let's have a snowball fight! Er, holy crap it's too cold out... How can there even be classes this afternoon? (there are)

Friday night's sailing weather recap:

That's -29 degrees celsius.

Sailing seems awfully far away right now, even sitting here in the lounge writing this. It's too cold to even go ice sailing, although there is plenty of ice out there.

'Nuf said.

  1. HOOFER JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Head of Instruction/Head Coach hiring: Due to a second failed search for a new HOI/Head Coach the club has decided to split up the position into two TE employees for the time being. The Sailing Team will be hiring a head coach and the Club will be hiring a Head of Instruction. If either of these positions interest you please let us know asap. We would like to have an HOI hired by the end of February.

  2. I don't see any such jobs advertised at either of the appropriate sites:

    https://apps.union.wisc.edu/jobs-about.asp
    https://jobs.wisc.edu/

Is the club trying to do this under the table again? Maybe that's why they haven't hired anyone yet, even though at least one qualified person applied.

Everyone has to be a potential party buddy/sex partner, don't they.

  3. Split them Up/Split Them Up!Mon Jan 28, 09:29:00 AM PST

Splitting into two jobs is how it used to be. Sailing Team and Hoofer Sailing Club separate is a good thing to re-happen. One can advocate for the Sailing Team and the other for the 1200+ Club members that are not on the Sailing Team.

  4. A Großadmiral over both Sailing Club and Sailing Team would be good. He or she can advocate for the common good of the 99.9% and the 0.1%.

  5. Why can't I find any public information on these 2 jobs?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Cause the jobs are public jobs in Wisconsin. Ya big thilly geeses!

  10. I'm talking about advertising the two open positions at Hoofer Sailing. Shouldn't we be trying harder to let people know these positions are available? If I were looking for a job as a sailing instructor manager or sailing team coach and google searched I wouldn't find anything about these job opportunities. That's what companies or governments do when they don't want to fill the positions or have somebody internal that they know they'll hire anyways. Or maybe it's just a sign of incompetence.

  11. Well shit. I thought you said that this was the "end of blog" last time. What happened? Can you go onto campus and follow other young girls now? Destroy other young and vibrant lives for what ever sick, power trip satisfaction you get out of it? Do you now perhaps have a job where you did not really work to being with?

Put your sick thoughts away and stop writing. The world shall be better if you just use your computer and your hand to satisfy yourself. Especially at your age. Just remember that male testosterone levels decrease by more than seventy percent by your age. If you think not, just try to run me over in a parking lot again, okay?

You think you are handsome, but you are ugly. You think any woman is attracted to you, no matter how young they are, but they are not. They just want to get away from you. Because you and your stringy hair and stupid vest make them nauseous. You think that you are smarter than everyone else on the planet, but you are not.

Go ahead an delete this, okay? All I needed was for you to see it. Do not write back, I shall not be looking again. I was just bummed that you put something else up on your sick, self-serving blog.

  12. The job openings should be well-advertised to ensure that we get a large pool of appropriate candidates. Just like when Badgers Football switched away from its traditional play the Team suffered until they got a more appropriate coach and began rebuilding back to former status. I think Hoofers is in the same situation and would benefit from a return to our traditional club values. This starts by having the right people hired for both positions. Let us return to our peer-to-peer club roots, roll-up our sleeves and contribute to a really great 2019 Sailing Season!

  13. I am Hoofer Here Me RoarMon Feb 04, 09:20:00 AM PST

And, if elected, I promise to return Hoofer's to its roots. No longer must we feel shamed over who we are and how we roll. We have seen and experienced the attempts at the corporatization and homogenization of the club.

    We Are Hoofer's
    Here us roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And we're going to be just who we are.

It may seem in bad taste
Or a bit too much in your face
But we're doing it just the way
    we are.

    So let the C-Cup Rock
    Even if itches someone's smock
Cause they ain't the ones living
    so freeee.

    We are Hoofer's
    Here us roar...

  14. We're leaving that angry comment up at 10:14 above. It's amazing how the homophobic haters come back out as soon as the weather changes. One has to wonder if Mr. Sunday-evening-hookah isn't actually talking about himself, not quite realizing it in an alcohol-induced haze. The blog itself is fair game for criticism, and we encourage people to vent their frustrations with Hoofers, but be cautious with personal attacks and especially personal names because there's enough slander around the club already.

  15. Why did that dude get so angry?
All the information is here anyways

Actually it's not. The job descriptions are still not public.

  16. It is a rumor that there are two openings. The club is hiring a single person for both jobs, also they are going with someone who is "home grown". So what? We need a HOI, instructor applications are due next week.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Knows Nothing, the Hoofer web site lists 2 PDF position descriptions. But, these cannot be accessed from the website unless you have id and passwords. Interesting that both of these are locked down from the public but the carefree, happy-go-lucky Instructor applications are not.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Great idea to go for a homegrown HOI and a different homegrown team coach. The position description are now available on the site mentioned above. Looks like we're looking for a 20% time Team Coach and a 80% time HOI.

  19. Jim Rogers was one of if not the best Head of Instruction Hoofer's ever had. If he's available I say bring him back. Jim understands the Hoofer traditions, he is awesome sailor, windsurfer and teacher. Would be great to have Jim back with The Club.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jim is already a Union advisor for Publications so him moving back to being head of sailing instruction would be a big paycut. IMHO it's a big shame Jim isn't still the main Hoofer advisor.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jim's a great guy! He'll do great no matter where he goes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ironic that the blog site used to dis Jim is now the rallying point to get Jim back as Hoofer Advisor!

    Kwayzee World!

    ReplyDelete
  23. People can praise Jim all they want. No doubt most people he hired had a good taste of him, and would love to see those days return.

Others had bad experiences with Jim. Maybe some of those will appear here as anecdotes in the not to distant future.

  27. "Head of" Instruction sounds like something out of a dystopian novel. Do you really need all this bureaucracy and hierarchy? That "job" was created by a naive Board of Captains in about 1985, at the height of Boomer laziness in running a formerly democratic country at all levels. A bunch of them still linger around the Club; ask them where it came from, and why the sane people who knew better, as ever, moved on in life. As to Rogers....beware any cult of personality, especially amid impressionable youth.
