Conference Sail Party

SEPT 1 UPDATE: We've learned that Peter just turned 21 at the end of 2014. Thus, if the photo was taken before this season, he was under 21 at the time, and if it was taken this year, he was blatantly violating the Hoofer alcohol policy. Worst of all, if it was taken in 2014, then he was doing both--drinking illegally and violating the new alcohol policy, while he was commodore!

Now that a mostly-alcohol-free Pirate's Day is in the books, here's something amusing, er, shocking.

The HSC conference sailing website reads: "Imagine relaxing on the bow of a sailing boat while a qualified Hoofer instructor guides you across the clear, blue, waters of beautiful Lake Mendota..."

That should probably be changed to read, "Imagine slamming an ice cold beer served by a Hoofer instructor as you relax on..." (and what the heck is a "sailing boat"? Do they mean "sailboat" or "boat under sail"? Who wrote that anyway? Sorry, I digress.)

That is a beer in Pete's hand, isn't it? In fact, it looks like everybody on board has one, including people who appear to be under 21. And our source says this was a conference sail.

But it can't be that because that would have been a flagrant violation of the Hoofer alcohol policy not to mention state law (underage drinking/serving alcohol to minors)--especially for a former commodore and education rep.

Maybe Peter can clarify some of this for us.

NOTE: If you have news to share, always try to send it asap because sometimes we are busy, out of town, partying, etc.

  1. Thank the sailing gods that Peter Grimmer wasn't elected commodore again. His idea of merging the J and keelboat fleets was the sort of idiotic thing a candidate says for lack of any real ideas, or just to get attention. But he might have been serious. And OMG, he wanted to get rid of all the scows except the C-scows! Not a scow sailor either.

Grimmer obviously has little understanding of club history or purpose, despite already having been commodore for a year. His main interest after all (and qualification) is sailing techs and slamming beers on board small keelboats.

There was one funny line line in his platform however: "we no longer drink on our sailboats."

Really? Pete, didn't you see the photo of yourself in this post?

  2. Heh he, Petey is keeping quiet on this one.

Oh by the way Pete, what was that pale ale you brought last time? It kicked butt. I think it was a pale ale, or else a wheat beer, let me know or just bring some more along this weekend if you can!

  3. Um, excuse me.
I know peter Grimmer, He is a hoofer youth instructor and sails with kids. He would never drink on a boat with them. The picture has to be Photoshopped, even if it isn't he was the Commodore, and makes the rules. Please take this post down, you are needlessly trying to embarrass the club.

  4. Er, the article says he was drinking with other underaged people, as in college aged, not with kids. And your argument about him being the commodore, what kind of example does that set if he breaks his own rules? Sheesh.

  5. Has he been held to account? Or does Elsmo not enforce any rules against the sailing team?
