Meet the Commodore

Meet the new Hoofer Sailing Commodore, Matt Duesrt, a.k.a. Sphinx. In the photo, Sphinx seems to be saying, "Get the f--- away from me!" Does he think he's a movie star..? Indeed, Sphinx does not like to be bothered with questions or problems, and his response is typically, "Leave me alone!".

Sphinx is waay too cool to be concerned with violations of club rules or similar such nonsense. So if you do have any problems (and there are many in Hoofers), contact the Union Director instead. Or better yet, your lawyer.

  1. I commend the new commodore on his actions to keep members of the club and himself feeling comfortable and safe within a friendly environment free of external harassment. He has shown more respect to many people than what they are deserving of, and continues to work diligently in keeping club members actively engaged. I feel as though this post is demeaning and defames the character of someone that is uniting the club. In regards to rule violations, I would highly discourage the “use of personal names”, especially when it is done in a derogatory manner.

  2. Perhaps the commandant should come up with a "stage name" if he doesn't want to be critiqued or evaluated.

If a blog is considered opinion, not fact, there's no damage here.

  3. What are you saying, silver spinnaker? It sounds like fluff. You say the new commodore is "uniting the club", which implies that the club was not united before. Of course that's true because the BOC and instructor staff regularly take advantage of general club members (and their $$) which just alienates people and is discriminatory. Some learning environment! But I seriously doubt that the new commodore will do anything different.

  4. A couple of weeks ago I asked Duerst if he was the commodore, and he said no!! His response pretty much ended the conversation and in addition was about the most immature and irresponsible thing I've ever seen.
