Mark Guthier: 20 yrs, 20 accomplishments. Since becoming Wis. Union director in 2001, Mr. Guthier has:
1. Removed all public phones at the Union.
2. Added dozens of security cameras.
3. Paved over most of the remaining grass on the Terrace.
4. Forced a $200 million fee increase on students.
5. Altered Union policies to give himself total authority.
6. Destroyed Union South.
7. Lost his license to practice law.
8. Added password login on all computers to bar visitors from using them.
9. Committed multiple felonies.
10. Trained his student employees to commit crimes.
11. Paved over any remaining grass on the Terrace.
12. Demolished Hoofers for no reason.
13. Rebuilt Hoofers in state-penitentary style (concrete block, high security, etc.)
14. Taken de facto control of Hoofers by altering Union rules ("I Am Altering the Deal, Pray I Don't Alter It Any Further!")
15. Installed magnetic card access for all areas.
16. Installed dozens more surveillance cameras.
17. Trained a new crop of student employees in the art of stalking, harassment, and surveillance.
18. become a child molestater.
19. Committed more crimes and civil rights violations.
20. Contributed to two Hoofer Sailing Club deaths.

I am a board member. I was present. I cannot believe what happened. What the hell are we doing? I cant say who I am for fear of what happened to another member that night will happen to me. Thank you for this blog, and I intend to give you all the updates I can. Hoofers is no longer a student organization. Dave Elsmo now has the authority to fire even the elected commodore? How the hell did this happen? It's time for him to go.
ReplyDeleteWow, while I read your blog on a regular basis, I NEVER thought that I would scoop the Commander, or Commanders! Has anyone made you aware of the ex-Hoofer member who has been given a two year campus ban? Do you know what this is all about? Saw it with my own eyes, surprised that you have not reported on it. Please keep us all informed, you do a nice job of it. Perhaps we can get some truth from you guys.

I too have heard those rumors and it is disturbing, like the totalitarian joke about death penalty for parking violations. Once they can do it to one person, they'll be coming after you next. Unfortunately I was not at the BOC meeting two weeks ago so I don't know exactly what went down there, except from the rumors.
ReplyDeleteAs for Dave Elsmo, I don't think he is evil, he is just a pawn of the crooks who run things at this decaying state university. The UW has now fully embraced xenophobia, discrimination, anal rape, etc. The creeping control over Hoofers and the BOC goes hand in hand with the weakening of student input (and faculty input) into shared governance on campus. Yes we are aware of the HSC member who was apparently banned from campus, as discussed at the BOC meeting two weeks ago, but the individual was not a current Hoofer employee so it could be libelous to provide details.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it was Hoofer-related in that another HSC member accused said Hoofer member/former member of stalking or harassment. Given that individual's recent history with the club, one wonders if there may be more going on here than meets the eye. Maybe all it takes is a flippant accusation from a female who doesn't like him--perhaps with the help of another Hoofer or two--and it's bye-bye! On the other hand, these days just looking at somebody funny can probably get you charged with stalking, which should be worrying to all of us.
We don't know exactly what happened, but false reports are not uncommon in today's xenophobic climate. Past Wis. Union student employees have falsely claimed that they were raped, stalked, etc. because it's so easy to do so. Such hallucinations may be due to psychological damage from a former traumatic event.

Not certain if you know the name, but I pulled three of these campus ban posters from the 0 - 100 block of State Street just this afternoon! That is not campus property.

But your readers perhaps do so that they do not fall victim to the same thing, no? Since I have found reading your posts most interesting, perhaps you can tell us what you are meaning when you say that there may be more going on than meets the eye?

Sorry....missed one thing. WHICH past Hoofer's employees have been falsely accused? I want to be round them. Here again, are you not legally able to tell us their names? As I said earlier, if it IS public record, telling us who they are cannot be liable. Or can it?
ReplyDeleteThat is why so many of us are looking to you lately. WORD is getting round. It is hard to see innocent memebers indicted because others do not like them. And what of the women? How were you able to determine that their claims were frivilous? Is there court record on these incidents?
This to is important if you can fill us in, because as you well know there WAS a rapist arrested and charged in the last couple of weeks. Women NEED to know what the bounds of making false accusations ARE, no? Lots of questions Fleet Commander, we look forward to some honest answers from you.

I was victimized by Arden Patton stealing thousands of dollars from me, and banned because I didn't just let her steal another couple of hundred, or have me evicted. You aren't the first person Dave has leveled charges against that are over embellished with colorfully untrue adjectives. Yes I read the report, and it has the same description as many other members' narratives that has crossed my desk. Hoofers has a problem. It's time to act. Unfortunately I still have to hide behind "anonymous" because I cant lose my job right now.

ReplyDeleteYou've YET to tell us what constitutes stalking. How come? And do you actually believe that ALL stalking complaints filed by women are lies? Women have to be alert ALL of the time on any university campus...especially THIS one. Nothing more appalling then older men sitting on the Hoofers Canopy watching young ladies that are thirty YEARS their junior. THAT seems a bit like someone who would enjoy watching their OWN daughter in the nude, no? Sick stuff, that.
Please...PLEASE tell your readership what is going on. MORE "banned" posters on Lake and University today. IF you want to stop this from exploding, perhaps fill us in. Is that not that your blog is about?

Hey pissed off.....just trying to find out from Fleet Commander what is what. If you've not seen them, you are not looking. The threat of a lawsuit for using the term "exploding" in an ENTIRELY different context that you appear to have taken it is laughable.

Ok, I work in the shop, and I was at that BOC meeting. Hoofers has a serious problem and it's time to discuss it. When did we stop harnessing volunteer efforts and start punishing people for them? When did we turn into a populist aristocracy entirely run by one person? and when did a disciplinary process so cumbersome get established?

That's a real twisted view of things, it is nothing like him looking at his own daughter. Exactly the opposite. In case you haven't noticed, the "older" men who hang around the canopy (you know who I mean) tend to attract more women than anybody else, including you I suspect. Maybe status has it's perks. You need to spend more time getting keelboat ratings and less time at your computer.

Sorry, one more thing. The individual, who posted his name on this site is a good man, works harder than anyone I know, and is also a personal friend. While I am not on the board and so do not know the discussion that went on, he DOES have a tendency to explode.
ReplyDeleteThis was not the first time either. IF any of you would like to do something more productive than whining about his being wrongly banned from the club, you would spend more time helping HIM than running down a board that consists of YOUR peers, no?
Have any of YOU reached out to him? Have any of YOU tried to convince him to see someone in order to work on that issue? Have any of YOU told him this face to face? I rather doubt it.
He would be an asset to the club, but whining about a club that WE all run does nothing for the man. How about we all help him? He has an open mind and is self-aware. However, when he needs support and help.....all many of you do is complain about Elsmo. What is that about anyway?
