Y.A.C.H.T.* XP
Are you young? Can you handle your liquor? If so, then why not join other hip young people on a cruise in the Bahamas this March! That's a cruise in the Bahamas, not to the Bahamas. You'll have to get yourself to Nassau prior to departure (no refunds if you arrive late).
The price is just $1300** or so for a week of total annihilation. There will be beer, rum, tequila... you name it. You'll have to buy it too, as this cruise is BYOB.
The graph above plots Hoofer alcohol policy vs. Yacht XP over time. Is it coincidence that Yacht XP's inception occurred right after alcohol was banned from Hoofer keelboats in 2014? You'll have to judge that for yourself.
Most organizers and participants are current or ex- Hoofers and their friends. Yacht XP's own Greg Bammel organized the last, semi-successful Hoofer cruise in 2014. After that, official Hoofer cruises were disallowed due to expensive screw-ups on the last two, so Yacht XP is now the only Hoofer-related*** way to get out on the water, get drunk, and get wasted!
Anyway, for under $2000 (probably--airfares to Nassau in March can be expensive), you can come and get shlt-faced with other young people and make up for all those times you wanted to drink on board Hoofer boats last summer but could not!
Note that the price goes up the longer you wait, e.g. signing up in January costs $1400**. If that seems expensive, it might be because Yacht XP gives big discounts to the skippers--who are hoping to get a free ride on you.
Hey, isn't that how it works in Hoofers too?
*Yet Another Crazy Hoofer Trip?
**Plus beer, liquor, transportation to Nassau, personal expenses, bar tabs, your share of any boat damage, etc.
***NOTE that Yacht XP is not officially part of Hoofers any more, but the two did have a formal relationship.

Uh, anybody do anything on explaining publicly yet, like in a court of law, how the UW rescue boat ran over than poor man LAST YEAR on the windsurfer volunteer teaching?
ReplyDeleteUh, anybody do anything on explaining publicly yet, like in a court of law, how the UW rescue boat ran over that poor man LAST YEAR on the windsurfer volunteer teaching? Doesn't the open records law require they release all of this? Or do they think they can sweep this out of public view because he was Chinese?
ReplyDeleteWhy not charter out of Miami and sail across TO the Bahamas instead of incurring expensive airfares for everyone? Do all of this year's skippers have their USCG 6-PACK certification? That is required within 100 mi of the US mainland, but I see that Nassau is well over 100 mi from Miami... hehe.
ReplyDeleteOf course, YachtXP would never put unqualified skippers in charge of boats, even if Hoofers would.
The Blog Master is showing his years. Let me bring you from 2003 to 2017. YachtXP was replaced by YachtVISTA, YachtVista had yet to make good on the promises made. Yacht7 turned-out to be most serviceable and Yacht10 has been great. Capiche? Okay having some fun with ya.
ReplyDeleteThe Instructor that got chopped into Walleye chow by the Rescue Boat. Perception is reality and so long as we don't keep bringing-up the two recent deaths Hoofers will maintain its safety record and no one is going to challenge that. Time to move on and start planning the upcoming season of fun!
Nice touch adding the XP after Yacht. XP is no longer supported by Microsoft. Just upgrade to Yacht 10 and enjoy support and get automatic updates.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the blog author was pointing-out to the Yacht XP'ers that they too are unsupported and not with the times? But YACHT XP is easier and less obvious than say YACHT IOS.
Now about that report on Yu Chen's death. Even if his missing arm with Fitbit watch were to smash up through the ice clutching a copy of the official Accident Investigation, would anyone take notice? Helluva of an image.
Many of the windsurfers use the GoPro attached to their rig capturing moments of windsurfing finesse. Did Yu Chen have one of these going at the time of the collision? Along with the Fitbit watch (assume it was recovered with his arm) they would provide plenty of information about where Yu Chen was on Lake Mendota. Provided the UW Rescue Boat had some type of real-time GPS reporting, the boat's data when combined with Yu Chen's would give us the few minutes before their fates intersected.
ReplyDeleteThe propellers, having been removed at the time of the incident, could be subject to further scrutiny. This is SOP for removal and inspection of props following incidents like these.
New Topic: What will Hoofer's be like with Robotic Sailing Instructors? How can we make the robots act just like our current sailing instructors so that the Hoofer's experience continues long into the next century? Can they learn how to resemble human instructors by shadowing sailing instructors at the pier, on the water and under the awning? Might make a good bartender at the weekly instructor parties.
ReplyDeleteWe do need to change with the times. Robots are the future and the future is now. But how should they be trained to interact with students? Maybe Jim R., Justin C., Michaela R. can be used as the exemplars to model the robots behavior, sailing ability and dealing with emergency situations ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe just Jim R. At least he knows how to sail. Not sure about the other two.......
ReplyDeleteI believe the host of this blog just had his mind blown by the thought of 100 Jim Rogers robots teaching windsurfing and sailing!
ReplyDeleteLike driverless cars, UW Rescue service staffed by cyborgs linked into Skynet ;)
Sarah Connor, I must instruct you.
ReplyDeleteFuture World Instructor parties will be different. 100 Instructor Robots tapping a keg of 10W-30.
ReplyDeleteTime to contact the local press re: Yu Chen. No one has seen the official Accident Report. This is beyond the pale of any form of transparency. 9 months later and nothing in the press.
ReplyDeleteBREAKING NEWS!
ReplyDeleteYu Chen: The sheriff's office just completed their investigation and handed the case over to the DA's office before the holidays. The DA hasn't made a decision on the case yet, but will soon.
Yep, not much sailing news in January, hehe.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Yu Chen, that last anonymous post is old news. The sheriff handed it over to the incompetent Dane County DA months ago. Or maybe you were being sarcastic.
Yes, there is new information as to the status of the case as related here in this WKOW-TV update. http://www.wkow.com/story/37306726/2018/01/19/friends-seeking-answers-mourning-death-of-windsurfer
ReplyDeleteAre Sailing Club budgets accessible on line?
ReplyDeleteHugh, not sure if they are accessible online. IMHO, the budgets should be linked from the Hoofer Sailing Club website for clear and open transparency.
ReplyDeleteCurrent Status of Yu Chen 'incident' can be found in this news story released last week by WKOW-TV. Copy and past the link into a browser window to view.
ReplyDeleteNine months later, friends await resolution in case of windsurfer's death

Hey Kommodore! You speak of all of this corruption, and yet none of us who work or volunteer here seem to see any of it. Why is that, I wonder? Perhaps it is simply a university run sailing club? Perhaps like any other bureaucracy it is slow to deal with things? Perhaps you are not as smart as you would like to believe?
ReplyDeleteMORE than perhaps, is there not a bloggers code where you are not allowed to post phony comments about your on posts? You seem to have started doing this when someone commented about how irrelevant you had become.
That is clear to anyone with some computer skill, not to mention demeaning to you.
Oh sorry, you are a swamp-dog and cannot be demeaned. See you in a year, right?
@Anonymous, you might want to take a writing course next semester. Or maybe you were intoxicated when you wrote that, like the drivers of the motorboat?
ReplyDeleteOf course not everyone in Hoofers is corrupt, maybe not even the majority, so it is possible to participate and everything seems normal. Alternatively, if you are one of the crooks, you would try to confuse the issue. Everything in Hoofers is not kosher, just check out some of the old posts on this blog. Some provide hard data.
Der Kommissar; Sorry I forgot the "w" in own. I am, in fact, long past needing a writing course. Laughably so if you knew what I actually do. But this is a stupid blog and I do not feel the need to strive for accuracy in my grammar or typing. Indeed, your comment is equally laughable. Criminals are not all that bright, just as the Fleet Kommander is not as intelligent as he thinks he is. Oh, and his hard data? Highly edited to suit his small minded "feelings" of hate and anger. THAT is a fact Der Kommissar. THINK!
ReplyDeleteIn short? The Fleet Kommander has a HUGE ax to grind. I know his story, and he is a sad, sick, creature masquerading as a human being. If you have ANY modicum of intelligence you would see that his posts serve his own, long held anger with the club because he was most likely one of those criminals that he proclaims to hate. He just got caught at it, I expect. He is a bitter soul with his own agenda.
Hate is a useless and needless emotion. Especially from some chickenshit who cowers
behind his witless and laughable "posts". Worse? He writes many of his OWN comments because one of his rapidly diminishing faithful pointed out that he was not getting many. In other words.....the Fleet Kommander (spelled with a K deliberately in the event you did not figure it out), is rapidly becoming irrelevant.
Indeed, he has so many axes grinding that neither he, or any of his supporters, can see through the shower of sparks. You see, I know who and what he is and he knows who and what I am. And so it shall not be long until his "followers" consist largely of those unable to form their own opinions. Those who believe that the absurd things he posts are based on ALL of the facts. Not just his hand picked ones.
Did your parents not send you to university to LEARN? If so, use your brain. If not? Vote for David Dennison next election. If you are unaware of just who that is, perhaps you should pick up a newspaper. Thankfully, it is a small number of you who are right in there with him. But you see, the table of life is round, and what we give out comes back to us. Good or bad. Think about that hard for a bit.
Oh yes, and if he has ANY courage, he is welcome to confront me at any time. Only with his real name, and not some idiotic blogger identification. Wake up! Check the "facts" that he proclaims are true. For many of them are not. Quit being led by his nonsense, okay? At least try to look into some of his so-called facts. You seem to be a nice person, Der Kommissar. Just try to look into things before you believe them. You would be well served to consider the motives of the source.
So many anonymous comments, argh! We're leaving that last one up because it's so silly and obvious in its attempts to undermine the blog, and because we hate censorship. Evidently posted by someone who is really irked by this blog--someone like Mike Larsen, perhaps, former Commodore and crook who deleted the club's only official blog some years ago after people posted too many criticisms of him.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet the commenter above is one of the slanderers, sexual harassers, or embezzlers we've covered in previous posts, a club "leader" who has made false police reports, sent libelous emails, tried to swindle paying customers, and so on.
We believe all of our data are correct (as Anonymous would know if he had access to the budgets, etc.), but if you discover any that are erroneous, please let us know. What's not helpful are blanket comments claiming that we don't post all the facts. OF COURSE we don't. We pick and choose examples of crooked behavior by Hoofer staff. If we posted everything, the important stuff would get lost in the pile.
Evidently our coverage has gotten under somebody's skin.
