Suck-starting Harvey

The motorboat, that is. We'd like to see them get it in gear and finish up their "investigation" into the tragedy that occurred last May. The UW and DA might think this issue is going to go away, but it's more likely to snowball when the New York Times and/or Chicago Tribune pick it up.

Meanwhile, as summer approaches, it's time to reiterate a few basic guidelines. Hoofer and Union management expect club members to behave in a respectful and non-discriminatory manner toward others at all times (especially when interacting with staff). If you're not sure what we're talking about, just pretend you took some Valium and Prozac, maybe with some oxycodone and/or a shot of tequila thrown in. Note: we are not pharmacists and do not necessarily recommend that mix.

Customers (paying club members) can be disciplined or even kicked out of the club if accused of violating the rules. Note that you don't actually have to violate any of them--you just have to be accused of violating them. So, here are a few guidelines you won't find in the Ground School Manual:

1. Male instructors: please don't offer other men sexual favors in the office (Badger ears are everywhere, ya know). This goes even if the action is intended to take place elsewhere.
2. Female instructors: if you wear a bikini on the job, don't complain when people stare, especially the mature men sitting under the canopy.
3. Hoofer "leaders" only: Do not send defamatory emails about anyone.
4. Club officers & instructors: Slandering people behind their backs is also illegal and could come back to haunt you.
5. Club officers and employees: Do not make false police reports about people you don't like. Although that can be more effective than other forms of abuse, e.g. removing a person's ratings without telling them or making them take lessons ad infinitum, and UW police never question what comes out of the mouth of a fellow UW employee, it is technically criminal.
6. Avoid trying to rip off customers anymore.

Hmm... those rules all seem to apply to sailing club "leaders," not to general "club members". Come to think of it, general club members generally behave themselves.

So let's get fired up for lift-in this Saturday (May 5) and for match-racing some new T-10s!

  1. You forgot to mention that encouraging someone to commit libel, slander or another crime is itself a criminal act. Not that anyone around here will ever get charged.

  3. Pretty sure it's Lt. Commander Philip Queeg lurking behind that nom de guerre. He's a few waves short of a shipwreck if he sees criminal conspiracy behind this case, even though law enforcement always emits a collective shrug when some poor schlub gets "accidentally" flattened by a vehicle. It only happens literally 100 times a day.

  4. @A-NON: We deleted your post because it made sleazy insinuations that had nothing to do with the original post. You're trying to smear this blog and/or its authors, and the fact that you've done so before too (in comments) makes us wonder about your motives and mental state.

Contrary to your comment, the OP simply suggests that men might want to view women, e.g. 21 year olds, in bikinis. I hate to break it to you, but that's nothing terribly unusual and has been going on for thousands of years. Believe it or not, many young women also don't mind seeing attractive men with their shirts off, and so on.

Maybe you are gay or transsexual? Nothing wrong with that, but please don't try to put words in our mouth.

  5. Wow Kommander, you certainly like to control opinions that might not match with your own. Is THAT your approach to telling your readers the truth about what you are likely REALLY after?

Taking into account your piss-pool attempt at calling me names, perhaps you ARE a pedophile. Indeed, the four, no make it six times now that you have mentioned mature men looking at young girls, and your comments about my being gay or trans literally speak volumes about what is in YOUR head.

So what was it? Are you a past Commodore? A fired instructor who hit on the young ladies? A voyeur? A pedophile? OR....most frightening, all of the above?

Let ALL opinions out if you want your five readers to believe anything you say. To do otherwise makes you just another chicken-shit hiding behind a computer screen.

    Delete away!

  6. Make that piss-poor. Whilst I may produce a typo or two, least I can have an original thought and DO read what you have to say. Even though most of it is crap.
So why not let your readers know what WE have to say, no?

  7. Meanwhile over on Governor's Island, a body was found in the water. Since it does not appear that a UW Rescue boat was involved, expect a timely investigation wrapped-up in less than 2 weeks by the local authorities.

  8. Thanks for posting that link. It will be interesting to keep and eye on that investigation and see how long it takes. It has the makings of a movie script.

  9. Only took one day to rule-out foul play. Wow! That was fast. Guess they can really get er done when no UW Rescue Boats are involved https://www.channel3000.com/news/no-signs-of-foul-play-apparent-in-body-of-woman-found-on-governors-island-medical-examiner-says/738922768

  10. It takes a long time to falsify a medical examiner's report when your IQ is just 85.

  11. This manual contains an OLD HSC flow-chart, you idiot. If you are going to give people information on your blog, how about attending a ground school so that you can give them no information? Perhaps that is where you should start?

Or perhaps stop by the OPO and get a new one for yourself before you publish old information? You have so many axes grinding that you cannot see through the shower of your own sparks, huh?

    Hearts and flowers

  12. Make that "give them NEW information". Sorry for the typo, least I have a brain.

  13. Ouch, such sniping. The latest Groundschool manual I can find online is for 2014, located here:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BywZ-rLn0R8hdlU4YTc5RjhKVVlwYjBxTnZ0Wk4yVF9CWjNz/edit

That one is out of date too, but it is just oh so much trouble for the club's secretary to upload the new one year after year. In any case the "guidelines" up above won't likely be found in any GS manual!

  14. I Take your point. But the Kommander is such a piece of snide, arrogant, and self-important slime.

  15. UWPD Takes Over UW-Rescue.

"The launch of UWPD Lake Rescue & Safety comes almost a year after the death of Yu Chen, a windsurfer and volunteer Hoofers instructor. Chen died in a collision with a UW Lake Safety boat on May 31, 2017."

So, still no finding on the Death Investigation. Just that there was a collision. Read the article. Any thoughts? This is a big change. What happens or happened with the staff on the UW Rescue Boat that day?

Also, will the UWPD be as benevolent and look the other way when the see all the hijinks and hilarity going on with Hoofer's? Zero Tolerance more than likely.

Like they say in the movies, "There's a new Sheriff in Town".

  16. Wow, this is bad news to be sure. My stomach is turning. Now any time you capsize a Tech or a scow, or swamp a sloop, the police will be there to search you, search your boat, run a background check on you, question your friends, etc. Then will they tow you in. Omg.

And whatever you do, don't reach for your rolled up shirt or suntan oil under the seat or you may be shot!

Said a UWPD spokesman: "“We’re excited to bring Lake Rescue & Safety to our agency." No doubt they would be excited if everything was under their control.

  18. There is now media interest in this story. They were directed to this blog to see if anyone would like to be interviewed or comment on what is happening/not happening with the Yu Chen death investigation.

Good to know that there are still a few members of the media out there looking to do some investigative reporting. Please volunteer your time to share your concerns.

  20. So the laissez-faire days of Harvey come to an end. UWPD will be obligated to ticket for underage drinking/adults contributing to the delinquency of minors (underage drinkers), not enough life jackets, inebriated boat operators....

Let's just say that this coming Pirates Day and Commodores Cup will have cake and punch. Ice cream anyone? The booze cruises? Over, done, roger that. When UWPD starts enforcing for the alcohol issues with Hoofer's, let's just say that Dane County Detox will need to quadruple its current capacity for all the intakes from Hoofer's.

IMHO this is long overdue! Granted this is just a lateral move while the DA continues to do nothing/say nothing like Sgt Schultz on Hogan's Heroes re: Yu Chen's being run over by a twin prop boat.

Sad showing all the way around. If you didn't see this coming you can't see the end of your nose ---let alone touch it during a field sobriety test!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I like Ice Cream. I like Root Beer, too. I also like the Osmond Family recordings from the 1970's. Sloppy drunks need to get clean and sober before they squander their trust funds. Hoofer's is going to be family-friendly just like the entire shoreline. Thankfully UWPD will be on the water and on the shore to make it so.

Let's hear it for grog-free Pirates Day!

Let's hear it for an 8 day Ice Cream Social known as Commodores Cup!

AA meetings will be held under the awning every Friday night to coincide with the alcohol-free socials.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh come on! Sure they want to clean-up the lakefront and sell more Terrace merchandise in their new stand outside. Things change over time. UWPD is not going to be breathalyzing folks at the piers. Geez. But, they do have a legal obligation to act and investigate laws or safety when it appears to be an issue.

It's not the end of the party. UW Memorial Union makes bucks selling kegs at top dollar at Socials and it's the bottom line that matters here. Pirate's Day and Commodore's Cup continue as is.

What about sailing? Is that not what the club is about? People sailing! All that booze business just matters to the 2 per centers who think the club should be alcohol-centric. Sailing season is here! Let's fly those scows at Warp 10, win the keel races sponsored by MYC and show the city and world that we are a first class Sailing Club!

  25. Is there going to be a remembrance for Yu Chen in a few days? It will mark the one year anniversary of his death.

Wow! One year and the DA is still sitting on that report. All they did with Harvey was rearrange the deck chairs and put UWPD in one of those chairs.

Poor showing all around. Pip pip cheerio and all that rot.

  26. We don't know who Ryan Q. is and don't care. However, just to reiterate: personal names are strongly discouraged and will be removed unless they belong to current or former Hoofer/UW employees who are deserving of criticism (that's a lotta people, but still only a tiny percentage of all people).

  27. PS. When used at the beginning of a sentence, the word "however" needs a semi-colon and not a comma after it. Moron.

  28. Please tell us why you are removing comments so that we don't see them? There was a comment on here yesterday that asked some questions about your view of looking at young girls that you needed to respond to, but you deleted it. How come?

The person commenting mentioned you calling out others by name on what he/she said were unproven charges, but now you have taken it off. So is this really the fair and honest blog you say you have or are you censoring comments that question some of your own actions?

We would like to konw why you do this. We read you posts all the time but not to have all of the comments looks fishy.

    Have a good day

  29. You (previous commenter) seem to be the only one obsessing about young girls around here. Also there are many supporting documents on this blog if you do a little bit of digging. Some people though, would rather just sit and criticize...
