Living the lie

The annual instructor hiring charade is finally over with. Were you "selected" (or not)..? Someone recently complained to me, i.e. someone who applied to instruct but wasn't selected, er, hired. S/he is a very good sailor, personable, loves to sail and windsurf, and s/he enjoys alcohol (the main critera for "selection"). Yet, s/he wasn't approved and won't be allowed to instruct even though s/he applied as a volunteer

If you think applications are evaluated fairly, they're not. Returning party buddies, er, instructors, get priority--even though teaching sailing at HSC isn't intended as a job but is part of one's overall education. The club's home page states explicitly (and correctly) that instructing is "the best way to become a better sailor". And yet, they refuse to let qualified, enthusiastic individuals teach lessons even as unpaid volunteers!?

It is human nature to try to build and maintain a comforting world view. Nietzsche explained this using the concept of illusion vs. reality. In a vernacular, it's known as "living the lie". To make existence bearable, our brains reject ideas that conflict with our preferred world-view, regardless of how accurate that view may be. The fact that Hoofers is run by sleazeballs is an unpleasant reality that is difficult to accept. We want desperately to believe that Hoofers is a nice place where everybody can learn in happiness and be treated fairly.

Most people are afraid to complain, reasoning (and rightly so) that if they do, they might suffer even greater abuses. The Japanese have an adage for this: "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down". Unfortunately the problem isn't confined to Japan. It exists wherever some people are given arbitrary authority over others. The crooks in charge of hiring aren't 100% at fault because it's the system that facilitates unfair access to resources and perks. There simply is no incentive to treat general club members, i.e. paying customers equally.

  1. Has it dawned on you yet Fleet Commander, that the lack of comment on your posts is directly proportional to your irrelevance? Your snide, cynical writing falls on deaf ears, apparently. Likely because you are not nearly as smart as YOU think that you are.

As well, blocking me on one computer does not block me, eh? I have many computers in two countries whilst you can only afford one. Blocking someone indicates that what they are saying is bothering you. However could someone like me bother you? Odd that, for I thought that you were the Fleet Commander, no? Perhaps not so much.

With my A-non and your comments about incest in my childhood, something that never occurred to me, perhaps incest must be something very ingrained in you. Perhaps you loved your mother in some sick fashion? There is a name for that. But then, you are FAR more intelligent than am I, eh? But it would likely sicken me to have a look at your computer.

So in my last writing, one that you shall never publish, let me just outline the playing field. You know who I am, and I know who you are. By the by, you hide under a wig that does not become you. You think you are clever, right? But in truth, you are a very disturbed man.

No one cares about you. Except of course for you. And me. I care about you, largely because you intrigue me. You are not a child, but not quite a man. You are clearly lacking in enough areas that you seek solace in your own, sad, dreary world. You are clearly hanging onto something that no one cares about anymore.

All your friends gone, if you ever really had any. Sad that. You have to hide behind untruths and pent up anger in order to grind your ax. Grinding that ax so flaming hard that you also cannot see through the sparks. How old are you? Old enough to know that this is all their is for you. This tawdry mess IS your life.

Writing crap that no one reads or cares about anymore. Trying to pretend you are so many things that you are clearly not. Using transference to pin your failings on others.....to pin your inadequacy on others....to pin you lack of courage on others.

So it is with a heavy heart that I tell you two things. Do not bother responding to my comment, for I shall not view your posts again. You bore me. I've worked round people who would put you to shame at grinding axes. Even worse.

You know where I work. Stop by sometime....like a man. Secondarily, and this IS official; Quit. Following. Me. Now.

  2. Wow, a lot of hostility there. @Weatherman: what you say is pretty nonsensical, maybe you were wasted when you wrote it?

Well, no good Hoofer is still sober at 7 pm on a Friday....

  3. We decided to leave "Weatherman's" comment up because it's so ridiculous and because it exemplifies the hit-and-run style of attack common in Hoofers. Unfortunate that the blog attracts haters, but we dislike censorship even more than we dislike creepy trolls.

If you look back at posts from previous years, you'll see that many get few or no comments while others have a dozen or more. It's somewhat random as well as related to the content of each post, obviously.

Btw, we have no idea who you ("Weatherman") are or where you work (or what you're talking about). Please feel free to elaborate, unless that was just the liquor talking.
